Upon arrival at the beautiful city of Puri, take a transfer to the hotel.
Puri is a city that lies in its namesake district of Odisha. The city is located at a distance of about 60 km from Bhubaneswar – the state capital. Home to revered Hindu temples and the popular Puri Beach, this destination draws tourists from different parts of the country and abroad, all throughout the year.
On reaching the hotel, complete all the check-in formalities and rest for a while. Later, embark on a sightseeing tour of Puri, which is considered as the home of Lord Jagannath – an incarnation of Lord Vishnu. It is among the four most revered pilgrimage sites of Hindus in the country. First visit the revered Jagannath Temple, which was built by Chodaganga Deva in AD 12 and is appreciated for its architecture. Sprawling across an area of 400000 square feet, this temple is enclosed by huge walls.
Thereafter, head towards the revered Gundicha Temple. This temple has been constructed using light-grey sandstone and is exemplary of Kalinga style of architecture. Also referred to as the Garden House of Jagannath, this temple is situated in the middle of a lush green garden. After exploring this temple, continue your journey towards the revered Lokanath Temple, which is located in proximity to the Jagannath Temple. This temple was built in the 11th century and is dedicated to the Hindu god, Lord Shiva.
After visiting the temples, explore the open-air market and spend some quality time at the Puri Beach. Thereafter, go for an excursion to the beautiful Chilika Lake, which covers an area of approximately 1100 square kilometres and is situated at a distance of about 26 km from Puri. It is one of the largest brackish water lagoons in the world and is a famous picnic spot for locals and tourists.
Later, return to the hotel in Puri for an overnight stay.
Wake up in the morning and embark on an excursion to Raghurajpur. It is popularly known as the Heritage Crafts Village and is home to some of the best artisans of the state. This small village is renowned for its Pattachitra paintings, which is done over a piece of patta (cloth) or dried palm leaf. Wood carvings, Tussar paintings, palm leaf engravings, and wooden and papier mache toys can be found here. It is the best place to buy some souvenirs for your loved ones.
After spending some quality time at this village, proceed towards the beautiful region of Konark. The highlight of this place is the Sun Temple, which is believed to be built in the 13th century. Commissioned by King Narasimhadeva I, the temple was constructed in the shape of a huge chariot. It is built using black granite and is also called as the Black Pagoda. There is a Sun Temple Museum over here, which has on display a huge collection of artefacts belonging to the temple.
After the excursion, retire to the hotel in Puri and enjoy an overnight stay.
In the morning, get ready and leave the hotel for a sightseeing tour of Bhubaneswar. It is the capital city of the state of Odisha and has a history dating back to 3000 years. There are more than 500 temples in the city and that is why it is called as the Temple City of India. Some of the most prominent ones being the Lingaraj Temple, Parasurameswara Temple, Brahmeshwara Temple, Mukteswar Temple and Rajarani Temple. Besides these holy sites, visit the renowned Udayagiri and Khandagiri Caves. These artificial caves have religious, historical and archaeological importance. There are 33 rock cut caves on the twin hills – Khandagiri and Udayagiri.
Also, pay a visit to the famous Nandankanan Zoological Park (closed on Mondays), which was established in 1960.
